Built for Northern Virginia and the DC market. Free FSMA 204 traceability, GAP audit preparation, and organic and other programs from one set of records.
Virginia is one of the states where the department of agriculture itself conducts your USDA GAP audit, which makes the path unusually clear: prepare your food safety system, then schedule through VDACS.
For Northern Virginia growers selling into the DC metro, GAP is often the difference between a farmers market table and a standing institutional order. GAP APP builds the documentation those buyers and auditors expect.
VDACS created a Produce Safety Program within its Office of Dairy and Foods in 2016, using federal FDA grant funding, to implement the FSMA Produce Safety Rule. Virginia Tech's Fresh Produce Food Safety team runs grower education and hosts the state's produce safety resources.

VDACS is the USDA AMS federal-state cooperator that conducts USDA GAP/GHP and Harmonized GAP audits in Virginia through its commodity services inspectors. Virginia Tech publishes a step-by-step guide to the GAP certification process — build your manual, run a mock audit, then schedule the official audit through VDACS.

Virginia Cooperative Extension hosts the Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training Course, in person and in virtual two-half-day formats. Check the current course listing for dates and the current fee.
We could not verify a standing Virginia program that reimburses a share of GAP audit fees. VDACS does administer the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, which is competitive and project-based rather than a per-farm audit rebate. Ask VDACS what is open in the current cycle before assuming help is available.

The DC area's institutional buyers source heavily from Virginia and Maryland. None of the organizations below publishes an outright GAP mandate we could verify, so confirm the standard with each buyer — but expect food safety documentation to be part of the conversation.
