Water Testing.
Demystified.

FSMA Produce Safety Rule water testing requirements, automated GM/STV calculations, and real-time compliance monitoring.

FSMA E. coli thresholds.

Geometric Mean (GM)

126 CFU / 100 mL

Rolling average of your most recent water samples. Must stay at or below 126.

Statistical Threshold Value (STV)

410 CFU / 100 mL

90th percentile estimate. Captures variability — even if your GM is good, a high STV flags inconsistency.

How GAP APP helps.

Automatic GM/STV Calculation

Enter sample results and GAP APP calculates your Geometric Mean and STV using EPA-approved formulas.

COA Upload & Parsing

Upload Certificates of Analysis from your lab. AI extracts E. coli results, sample dates, and source IDs.

Trend Charts & Monitoring

Visual trend charts show GM and STV over time by water source.

Threshold Alerts

Automatic alerts when GM approaches 126 or STV approaches 410.

Water Source Management

Track multiple sources — wells, municipal, surface water, reclaimed — each with independent compliance.

Audit-Ready Records

All water testing data exports directly into your audit binder.

Frequently asked questions.

How many water samples do I need?
Surface water requires an initial survey of 20 samples over 2–4 years, then annual surveys of 4 new samples. Municipal water may require fewer.
What is the GM/STV calculation?
The GM is the nth root of the product of n sample values. The STV estimates the 90th percentile. Both must be at or below their thresholds.
What happens if I exceed the thresholds?
You must take corrective actions: re-inspect the water system, implement mitigation measures, and re-test.
Does GAP APP handle both pre- and post-harvest water?
Yes. Pre-harvest follows GM/STV. Post-harvest must meet drinking water standards. GAP APP tracks both.
Can I track water testing for multiple sources?
Yes. Create unlimited water sources with independent sample histories and compliance badges.
